Sectors · Cold chain & agriculture

Battery storage for cold chain & agriculture.

Refrigeration runs around the clock and cannot stop for an outage. Storage keeps the cold rooms cold, moves compressor load out of the peaks and makes a solar array useful after sunset.

01 · The problem

What the site
is up against.

Continuity

Product at risk in every outage

A cold store that warms during load-shedding loses product, and the generator that prevents it burns diesel.

Load

Continuous refrigeration load

Compressors run through the hot afternoon and evening, overlapping the evening peak window.

Network

Rural and weak feeders

Ruraflex and Miniflex sites are often at the end of long lines with frequent interruptions.

02 · What storage does

What the battery
does about it.

  1. 01
Backup for refrigerationCarries the cold rooms through an outage, with island transfer in under 10 ms where specified.
  2. 02
Solar into the eveningStores midday solar and releases it in the evening peak, when compressors are still working hard.
  3. 03
Diesel displacementGensets become emergency backup rather than a daily resource.
  4. 04
Peak shiftingMoves part of the refrigeration load out of the peak windows.
03 · Typical configuration

Indicative,
before the load study.

SystemsA100 blocks or an A200 to A300
Connection400 V, or MV through a skid on larger sites
Duration4 hours where backup matters as much as arbitrage
Pairs withGround-mount PV, existing gensets
Commercial modelPPA or hybrid with an owned solar array

Every configuration is sized from the site's own interval data and tariff; this is a starting point, not a quote.

04 · Questions

Asked by cold chain & agriculture
buyers.

Does storage pay on a rural tariff?
Not always on tariff savings alone: some rural tariffs have a small gap between peak and off-peak prices. Paired with solar and a diesel bill, and valued for the product it protects, it often does. The load study tells you which side of the line your site is on.
How long can it carry a cold store?
That is a sizing choice: the reserve is set against the refrigeration load and the outage length you want to cover, and held back from daily cycling.
Can it run with our generator?
Yes. Solaris dispatches the generator as one resource among several and runs it only when the battery reserve calls for it.
Next step

Start with your meter data.

Twelve months of interval data, your tariff schedule and your notified maximum demand are enough for a first sizing, an indicative capex and a PPA rate, within five working days, at no cost.
