Two AMPROTEQ 20 ft battery containers beside a medium-voltage transformer at a utility solar plant

Own it, or just buy the electricity.

Three ways to buy the same plant: outright, as energy under a power purchase agreement, or a hybrid of the two. The engineering does not change; who carries the capital and the risk does.

01 · Three models

The same plant,
three ways to pay.

Power purchase agreement

Zero capex. A rate you can plan around.

AMPROTEQ designs, funds, builds, owns, operates and maintains the plant on your site. You buy kilowatt-hours at an agreed rate with a fixed annual escalation for 10 to 25 years: no capital outlay, no maintenance obligation, no technology risk.

Outright purchase

The plant on your balance sheet.

Buy the microgrid or any part of it (BESS, PCS, medium-voltage skid or the Solaris controller) as a supplied and commissioned asset. For well-defined configurations we arrange standardised financing with commercial banks, and carry O&M under a separate agreement.

Hybrid

Co-invest where it suits you.

Own the part that fits your capital plan, often the solar array, and take the storage and control layer under a PPA. Ownership, risk and escalation are split the way you want them.

02 · Side by side

What changes

03 · Term and life

A 25-year agreement
on a 20-year battery.

The battery is designed for 20 years of daily cycling. Where an agreement runs longer, or the contracted capacity must hold for the full term, the agreement includes planned augmentation: modules are added, or aged ones replaced, as state of health falls, so the usable energy you contracted for is maintained.

That cost is priced into the rate from day one, so it never arrives as a surprise. We size it against the manufacturer's measured degradation data, published by dispatch duty on the Systems page.

04 · Escalation

Why we model
9 % a year.

Our proposals escalate grid tariffs at 9 % a year unless your site's tariff history says otherwise. NERSA approved 8.76 % for Eskom direct customers from 1 April 2026, 8.83 % from 1 April 2027, and 9.01 % for municipalities from 1 July 2026.

On those decisions Eskom's average tariff reaches about 251 c/kWh in 2027/28, against 19.9 c/kWh in 2007/08.

05 · Comparing offers

Compare on cost per
delivered kilowatt-hour.

Levelised cost of storage puts every offer on one basis: everything the system will cost, divided by everything it will deliver.

Can we buy the electricity instead of the system?
Yes. Under our power purchase agreement AMPROTEQ designs, funds, builds, owns, operates and maintains the plant on your site and you pay for the energy at an agreed rate with a fixed annual escalation, over 10 to 25 years, with no capital outlay.
How does a 25-year PPA work when the battery design life is 20 years?
The battery is designed for 20 years of daily cycling. Where an agreement runs longer, or contracted capacity must hold for the full term, it includes planned augmentation: modules are added or replaced as state of health falls, and that cost is priced into the rate from day one.
Can you arrange finance if we buy the plant?
Yes. For well-defined system configurations we can arrange standardised financing with commercial banks, and O&M can be carried under a separate maintenance agreement.
Next step

Start with your meter data.

Twelve months of interval data, your tariff schedule and your notified maximum demand are enough for a first sizing, an indicative capex and a PPA rate, within five working days, at no cost.
